Take a Look, This is Exciting!
Drumming in the hospital environment is like a breath of fresh air
in a stale, stressful, sterile environment
Circles of Rhythm is proud to have been a part of the creation of a new therapeutic drum circle program at the South Health Campus and at the Rockyview Hospital in Calgary Alberta – known as ‘The Rhythm Project’. Under Judy Atkinson’s leadership, Circles of Rhythm lent her drums for the first year and a half of its development. The Rhythm Project now has trained and mentored Integrated Community Drum Circle Facilitators in Calgary, and other locations around Alberta.
Within the Calgary Health Region, Integrated Community Drum Circles are now being offered every Friday and Tuesday afternoons from 1:30-2:30 pm, Friday at the South Health Campus Hospital, and Tuesday at the Rockyview General Hospital. These Integrated Community Drum Circles are for patients, staff and the community alike!
Research supports that the Integrated Community Drum Circles are highly effective for both our physical and mental wellness. They build a sense of community in the hospital environment and playfully lighten people’s spirits in what is often a very difficult period in one’s life.
Both Circles of Rhythm and the AHS programs are based on the following professional therapeutic tools tools:
~Kinetic Mood Retraining
~The Neurosequential model of Therapeutics
~Mindfulness & Meditation Practice
~Physical Stress Symptom Reduction
~The Recovery Model & Trauma Informed Care
Circles of Rhythm is excited to have the opportunity to tender for the provision of training for new facilitators. We are committed to providing the highest quality training which is consistent with what is currently happening throughout the region. We are ready to serve when called!
